I know I say this every time but where does the time go? I can’t
believe I haven’t really written a blog for over a year. We are really in the
swing of the year now in fact this week sees the half-way point of the year
upon us. So what has happened so far? The level 3 hospitality students had a
really good day in London. They visited Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant Dinner, Gordon Ramsay’s Maze restaurant and Jason Atherton’s award winning restaurant Pollen Street Social. As well as this they had an early lunch at a restaurant called Meat Liquor. Meat liquor is fast turning into one of London’s top restaurants for Burgers. Its concept is very different from most but is so popular with all. After this they had a little time to themselves before heading off to the Connaught Hotel for an inspirational tour of the hotel. They were blown away with the rooms and the attention to detail and it has given them something to aim for. Once the tour had finished it was time for afternoon tea so they could see how it is done and get ready for the start of our tea service. I must take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the day it
was one they won’t forget in a hurry and one that inspires them to achieve their goal.
In January the first year students had the chance to participate in a session in the college’s environmental tank. This is a great team building activity and not one for the faint hearted. The environmental training pool simulates, as realistically and safely as possible, a variety of sea conditions and the safety procedures needed in case you were to evacuate a ship, oil rig etc… I know that they had a great time and want to do it again!!!
We also had a visit from the EDGE Hotel School which is based at Colchester. Just quickly this is the next step for our students wanting to carry on in education and move onto university. They have taken over a building called Wivenhoe House and transformed it into a wonderful hotel. They offer hospitality management courses and it is completely run by students who spend a certain amount of months in each department learning how they operate. It is a great way of learning, getting hands on experience which is vital our trade. For more information please see our friends section where there is a link to the hotel.
Right better be off now hopefully see you all soon
Many thanks
